In UK, “90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents and 78% of deaf children go to mainstream schools” (19:09). A child is 5 years old in kindergarten. Before that, children do not have a school and teachers. Can you imagine spending five years of your life without a language?
Considering that the majority of deaf children are born to hearing parents, have hearing families and communities, and go to hearing schools, an ideal way of supporting deaf children is through educating their communities. If K-12 education includes early childhood developmental milestones in the general knowledge outcomes, many of these deaf children may find access to a language through an educated community.
